Aizu has a rich history of samurai culture. The city of Aizu Wakamatsu is located about 1 hour from many of the ski resorts. It’s worth checking out Tsuruga Castle, located in the centre of the city. Originally built 1384, it’s been destroyed and re-built a few times during its history.
Locals have a strong historical connection to Japan’s warrior class culture and martial arts.
In the Aizu Film, we had the privilege of documenting locals Kendo training and learning more about Japanese swordsmanship. The Kendo training is located at the base of the Tsuruga Castle.
