LOCATION

Aizu, Fukushima Prefecture, Tohoku.

WE WERE REALLY GRATEFULLY FOR ALL THE ASSISTANCE WE RECEIVED TO CREATE THE AIZU FILM. WE WANTED TO SHARE SOME DETAILS WITH YOU IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO TRAVEL ON A SKI TRIP TO JAPAN THAT WE FOUND USEFUL.

THE FIRST QUESTION WE ASKED OURSELVES: IS FUKUSHIMA SAFE TO VISIT?

THE RESOURCE WE LOOKED AT that helped us decide and educate ourselves, which you should CHECK OUT:

GETTING THERE

FUKUSHIMA is 250kms north of Tokyo. Access is easy via train or bus.

BUS

A direct bus departs from Haneda Airport. Get more details at japanbusonline.com/en/CourseSearch/10700130001

BULLET TRAIN

If you want to experience a Shinkansen (bullet train) and travel at speeds up to 300km per hour, you need to depart from Tokyo Station. If you fly into Narita Airport head into Tokyo Station (ROUGHLY 1 HOUR TRIP).

FROM TOKYO STATION YOU TAKE A BULLET TRAIN TO KORIYAMA. IT’S A 1.5 HOUR TRIP. YOU CAN HIRE A CAR / VAN IN KORIYAMA IF YOU WANT TO RESORT HOP – WE DID THIS. OTHERWISE, CATCH THE LOCAL TRAIN (VERY COOL EXPERIENCE) FROM KORIYAMA TO INAWASHIRO (about 40 MINUTEs ON THE Banetsu-Sai Line) AND GET A SHORT TRANSFER FROM THE STATION TO YOUR ACCOMMODATION.

RESOURCES

TWO VERY USEFUL RESOURCES WE USED WAS GOOGLE TRANSLATE AND GOOGLE MAPS. DOWNLOAD THESE TWO APPS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE! THEY ARE EXCELLENT. English isn’t widely spoken, but don’t let that discourage you. The Japanese people are friendly.

For local knowledge and experience, we tapped into these great websites:

1) Aizu Ski Japan – aizuski.jp/

2) The Diamond Route – diamondroutejapan.com/

3) Visit Aizu – aizuwakamatsu.mylocal.jp/trip/en/
